Strategic Communications & Grants

With 14 years of experience in journalism and public relations, I excel at creating communications strategies to address complex business challenges and opportunities. As a grants professional, I position organizations for sustainable financial success.

Early in my career, I provided program support for Leadership for Healthy Communities, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation designed to support local and state government leaders in their efforts to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic in low-income communities. This opportunity fueled my interest in advocacy and policy around public health, education equity, and economic security initiatives.

My professional highlights include creating a strategic communications framework to shape the development of a department's overall communications strategy; managing a $3.2 million grant from a national higher education funder; and becoming one of the youngest Grant Professionals Certified (GPC) credential holders.

The agencies and organizations that have contributed to my professional growth include WMAR-2 News Baltimore, Global Policy Solutions, Guide Dogs of Texas, Young Invincibles, the Office of U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, and the U.S. Department of State.

I earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Delaware State University and a leadership and graduate certificate from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

I have served as the board secretary for the Grant Professionals Association DC Metro Chapter since 2020. I am also a member of the Public Relations Society of America and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

"Brittany worked well with our team, was extremely professional, proved to be an excellent researcher and successful grant writer, and quickly grasped the needs of our organization. Thanks to her we were able to secure several key foundation grants, including a $50,000 grant from the Moody Foundation to secure funding for our clients impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Brittany’s assistance during a time of transition for us was very helpful."
